Low-Light
— Foundation

Working in degraded light with handheld and weapon-mounted lights. ID, blinding, movement and shot placement in the dark.

Most real-world incidents happen in the dark.

Statistically, the majority of armed self-defence situations happen in degraded light. Most shooters have never trained beyond daylight. Low-Light fixes that gap with a structured introduction to identifying, illuminating, and engaging threats in the dark.

You will work with both handheld torches and weapon-mounted lights. You will learn when each is correct, how to manage them under stress, and how to avoid the classic mistakes that turn a defender into the most visible target on the range.

Who is this training for?

  • Intermediate shooters comfortable with the draw and basic movement.
  • Home-defence focused civilians who want practical low-light skills.
  • Law enforcement individuals preparing for shift work.
  • Anyone carrying a torch on their EDC and wanting to use it properly.

What you'll learn

  • Light discipline — when light is your friend and your enemy
  • Handheld torch techniques (Harries, Neck Index, FBI, Rogers)
  • Weapon-mounted light operation under draw and movement
  • Target identification before target engagement
  • Using light to control distance and decisions
  • Blinding and disorienting techniques
  • Moving through structures in degraded light
  • Transitions between handheld, WML, and no-light operation

Frequently asked questions

Do I need both a handheld and a WML?
Yes — even a budget combination. The course teaches when each is correct, so you need to handle both.
Will we shoot in total darkness?
Yes. The final phase is run in true low-light conditions on a closed range.
Can I rent gear?
Yes — a duty WML and handheld light can be rented for €40 for the day. Mention it when you book.
What is the next step?
Most participants progress to the Low-Light + CQB Introduction package or repeat the foundation course with new gear.
